Las Vegas officials are considering an ordinance proposed by Councilman Bob Coffin that would allow the city to license marijuana consumption lounges. The proposal comes months after the Nevada Legislature’s legal arm issued an opinion that nothing in state law prevents local municipalities from allowing such businesses.

In January, California will join the list of states where recreational marijuana is legal, among them Oregon, Washington, Colorado and Alaska. With researchers tallying California’s marijuana sales at $7.7 billion last year, the so-called green rush has already turned gold. Next year, the Standard hotel in Hollywood plans to open a dispensary for edibles. “It’s exploding in a good way,” said Emerald Castro, a brand ambassador for cannabis start-ups. “There are a lot of professionals on board.”

High Fashion for a Higher Purpose: NY Fashion Week’s First Cannabis Event
Emerald Exchange brings Northern California farmers and Southern California companies together for an event that features a cannabis farmers market, workshops, music, a speaker series and educational events. The first Emerald Exchange was held in Malibu last August and two other events have been held since then. Some 500 attendees came out for the latest event in March.
The cannabis community of New York opened its doors to the fashion industry, with a curated group of attendees from household name brands such as Alexander Wang and Giorgio Armani to independent designers, hair stylists, and even the occasional investment banker (because NYFW attracts all kinds).
